You re-signed Ben Wallace?! Give me a contract!

Breaking news out of ESPN.com today has the Detroit Shock of the WNBA probably moving to Tulsa. This is just another example of the state of Oklahoma stealing a town’s beloved franchise for their own personal enjoyment. Just because your university’s starting quarterback reinjures his shoulder doesn’t mean you get to pilfer another town’s franchise regardless of the sport.

This comes on the heels of Oklahoma City’s love affair with the Hornets franchise, and their full-on marriage with the Thunder (nee Sonics) franchise from Seattle.

Some might argue that Seattle may still be more broken up today about the buying out of a .247, 2 HR hitting catcher in Kenji Johjima than Detroit is over the loss of their semi-beloved Shock. But I think we can all agree that while Ben Gordon looks weird in a Detroit Pistons uniform, he doesn’t look half as horrible as the Detroit Shock’s head coach cramming his second trimester belly into a Pistons tank top and short shorts every All-Star Break for the Haier Shooting Stars competition.

Today is a win for the country, as this should signal the end of being force-fed Bill Laimbeer’s pock-marked shoulders and pasty white thighs every All-Star Weekend for the foreseeable future.  3 cheers for Tulsa!
