Apparently a female UNC basketball star named Rashanda McCants is entering the WNBA draft. Does that name sound somewhat familiar? Maybe like some other UNC star that came out in recent years? I guess the question I’m getting at is: Are these two people the same person?

According to one NQTC reader, they may be. Here is the hilariously insane conspiracy theory from Gavin:

Seriously?! Rashad McCants saddled with injuries and unhappy with a certain Chapu eating into his playing time with the Sacramento Kings, decides to go undercover in the WNBA to assure himself some playing time. While Vince Carter and Antawn Jamison actually took summer classes and completed their degrees in the offseason, it doesn’t appear that Rashad has the same smarts that these other venerable UNC grads have. I mean the complete lack of creativity is stunning. Not only does he have his WNBA persona graduate from the same undergraduate institution that he left as an early-entry into the draft four years earlier, he simply adds two letters to his first name and thinks no one will be the wiser. Oh I can’t wait to hear the reports that Rashanda showers in her full uniform! I’m sure they’ll just write it off as an odd Rookie quirk. Luckily, NQTC readers will know better.

I’m going to avoid asking the obvious question of, “What was Gavin doing studying WNBA prospects? Let’s just take it for what it is. He did, however, correctly identify NQTC’s penchant for believing in crazy sports conspiracy theories (I promise you in 1985 the Knicks lottery ball was frozen so Stern would know to pick them first so Ewing could become a Knick).

When I first read this email, I thought it was funny but clearly a joke. The more I look at those pictures though, the more I’m becoming a believer.

***UPDATE: Gavin has brought to my attention that additional research has found that Rashanda is Rashard’s sister. Truth, or simply further cover for his elaborate charade?
