What exactly happened last night? Besides Hester getting literally pantsed towards the end of the game, it was a complete disaster. Yet somehow the Bears were “in it” until the end. Later this week when I have time to think about this game more, I’ll have some better analysis, but here are a few quick observations:

We weren’t playing from way behind the whole game, so why did we pass the ball 43 times and run 20?

This must be some kind of anomaly, but Jay Cutler had 0 accuracy. He was overthrowing, underthrowing, just not making passes that he generally can.

The D-line got some pressure on McNabb. They couldn’t plug the holes in the run game, but at least it felt like there was a pass rush.

I know Robbie Gould missed that field goal, but him and Maynard are awesome. I love those guys.

Kahlil Bell (rb) and Tim Shaw (st)? I don’t know who they are, but wow. Loved Shaw’s hits on kick coverage.

Charles Tillman may not be able to cover anyone, but boy can that guy strip the ball.

At 4-6, the Bears season is pretty much over. Unless they go 6-0 (we’ll be lucky if they go 2-4, its a tough stretch with Minnesota twice!), the front office can probably start planning for next season. Just getting Urlacher back from injury may be enough to shore up an aging, fading defense, but what about the offensive line? Wide Receivers? Secondary? There are a lot of questions with seemingly very few answers.

Could Mark DeRosa be coming back to the Cubs? Maybe. Don’t get too excited yet, its a pretty unreliable source. [Sons of Ivy] via [Bleacher Nation]

So if Quentin actually has the talent to be legit, but spends the rest of his career on the DL, can I call him a fluke/bust? Or will Sox fans get angry again? [Tribune]

Tillman is back in practice. He needs to get healthy if the Bears crappy secondary is going to have a chance this year. [WCG]

Chad Ford has Dejuan Blair dropping to the Bulls at 16. That doesn’t sound too bad. [Blogabull]

I never really stopped hating Tim Floyd after he was such a bad coach for the Bulls, so I really have no sympathy for him now that he’s out at USC for shady recruiting (really really shady). Good riddance. [Rush The Court]

Some people seem to think the Cubs future looks bright, others don’t. Personally I can’t get past the present mediocrity. [Zoner]

Cubs draft update. [Bleacher Nation]

According to Ben Gordon, Gar Forman and John Paxson are trading meaningless titles while Reinsdorf is the only one actually making any real decisions. [Da Bullz]

Coach Ditka is a bit skeptical about Cutler’s ability to lead. We’ll see. [Tribune]

Mainstream Media vs. Blogs: Go! Blogger: Legitimate opinion. MSM: Bloggers are 42 year olds living in their mom’s basements. Hmmm. [HHR]

Don’t even get me started on how unjust the NBA age rule is. [Deadspin]
