Will Steve Lavin be DePaul’s next Head Coach?

3 March, 2010 (13:00) | College Basketball, Media, NCAA | By: Paul M. Banks

By Paul M. Banks, President of The Sports Bank.net
DePaul needs a splash hire to revive their dormant program; and ESPN’s Steve Lavin could be it. The Blue Demons need someone to come in and convince local talent to stay home and start something, and I’m not convinced SIU’s Chris Lowery or Jazz Assistant (and former [...]

Rick Morrissey Actually EATS His Column [Video]

10 November, 2009 (20:28) | Chicago Bulls, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

Remember the story earlier today about Morrissey showing up at Bulls practice with salsa claiming he was going to literally eat his negative column about Noah?  Back in 2007, Rick Morrissey of the Chicago Tribune claimed he would eat his column with salsa on it if Noah even proved to be “useful”.
Well not only did [...]

Rick Morrissey Dips His Words in Salsa, Then Eats Them

10 November, 2009 (07:10) | Chicago Bulls, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

We really don’t like most Chicago sportswriters around here.  Beyond a couple bearable ones, its amazing that these people still have jobs.  Their sensational, negative, agenda-filled columns are like nails on a chalkboard, but unfortunately we rely on them for information since they are the only ones with access to the locker rooms and clubhouses [...]

Philly Fans Get it Right

23 October, 2009 (09:00) | MLB, Media | By: StevieY19

We give a lot of crap to Philly fans; getting after them for their willingness to boo McNabb, likely their own children, and Santa, or their affinity for battery tossing and other general assbaggery.  Most All of that is well deserved and it’s even good form to make fun of their 10,000 losses.  On Wednesday [...]

It Doesn’t Look Like The Media’s Favre-Love is Shared by Everyone

6 October, 2009 (11:00) | Football, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

I hate Brett Favre.  Cannot stand him.  But you know what I hate more than Brett Favre?  The media’s enormous boner for him.  Last night’s game was a great game except that every single announcer, feature, montage, and graphic was about slurping on Brett.
Sometimes I wonder: Is it just me?  Am I taking crazy pills?  [...]

Ricketts’ Lesbian Daughter “Twist” in Cubs Sale Gives Jay Mariotti a Boner

27 August, 2009 (09:18) | Chicago Cubs, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

Yeah that headline reads right.  I stumbled across Mariotti’s two cents on the Cubs sale on the web this morning (I just can’t make myself directly read Mariotti’s garbage anymore).  Apparently, Mariotti thinks that the fact that Ricketts’ daughter is a lesbian is some huge twist in the sale of the Cubs.  Here’s the excerpt [...]

ESPN’s East Coast Bias Revealed

25 August, 2009 (19:05) | Fantasy Football, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

Normally I don’t support or link to Cardinals blogs, but this expose on the east coast media bias was too good to pass up..  I have been saying it for years, and even though this isn’t the hugest example, it is a pretty concrete and obvious one.
ESPN Customer Care to me
Dear Todd,
Thank you for contacting [...]

Piniella On The Hot Seat?

14 August, 2009 (09:35) | Chicago Cubs, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

There is a reason that I put a question mark at the end of the title of this post.  I know the Cubbies have been slipping after a recent 16-6 stretch, but I hadn’t heard that Lou was under fire.  Not yet at least.  Then this morning I read a note on Yahoo Sports Rumors [...]

It’s Official: Jay Mariotti Is A Two-Faced, Lying Member of The Print Media Once Again

10 August, 2009 (14:50) | Chicago, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

Well that didn’t take long.  After railing against print media and how its dying, Mariotti left the Sun-Times to take his lucrative gig at AOL Fanhouse and focus more on his awful, awful appearances on ESPN’s Around the Horn.  Apparently he thinks that he can save print media from extinction, however, since he is now [...]

Blogs: Guinea Pigs for Mainstream Media

23 July, 2009 (11:45) | Media | By: StevieY19

It’s no secret that Stormin’ Norman and myself hold ESPN in the lowest regard. Gone are the days when I would watch Sportscenter four times per day, use anchor catchphrases in everyday life, and tolerate Chris Berman. Junior High was great though.
I also believe I’m past the days of picking apart everything the WWL does [...]

WGN Reporter Posterizes 6 Year Old Kid, Then Talks Trash

12 June, 2009 (13:04) | Basketball, Media, Video | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

Chicago stands above the rest once again.  Enjoy watching this douchebag being, well, a douchebag.

When the mom yells “In your face!” I don’t think she was playing around. She seems really pissed. Hilarious.

And thanks to StevieY19 for the tip.

ESPN Is So Full Of Shit (Morning Pictures)

2 June, 2009 (09:00) | Baseball, Chicago, ESPN Sucks, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

The Cubs played the Dodgers on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN the other night.  As ESPN always does on those national telecasts, it broadcast many live views of Chicago landmarks.  Notice anything wrong with this one?

I’ll give you a hint, take a look at the building on the left.  It’s the Sun-Times building, right?  Well [...]

Can You Say “Cocksucker” On TV?

28 April, 2009 (15:19) | Chicago Blackhawks, Media | By: Stormin' Norman Disciple

The answer is yes.  Take a look at this pregame report for a Blackhawks game from a few weeks ago.  Wow.

ESPN Chicago: Should We Care?

16 April, 2009 (09:00) | Media | By: StevieY19

So I finally checked out ESPN’s new Chicago centered site (site? blog? page?  whatever it’s called) expecting to be shocked, appalled and generally saddened about life the way I am with anything new ESPN does outside of their Sportscenter commercials.  Really though, I’m not sure how much this affects us Chicago folk and if anything, [...]

Pick ‘A’ for Awful Taste

10 April, 2009 (12:38) | Media | By: StevieY19

I really don’t have a lot to say about this, it just seems like a horrible decision by ESPN.  The kid died yesterday.  And this after their horrible choice/oversight regarding a commercial yesterday.  You can’t just play sad music and think that makes everything okay.
