Derrick Rose Does An Interview Where He Doesn’t Sound Like An Idiot

I love D-Rose.  The kid can play and his performance at the All-Star game was perfect.  He carried himself with all-star swagger, while still looking to defer to his seniors and fellow all-stars around him.  A main issue about a big free agent coming to Chicago that no one seems to be talking about is that the guys who might come will want to be the top dog on the team.  Every team must have an alpha dog, and a guy like LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Joe Johnson, etc. wants to make sure that wherever they go, they will be the man.  That is what makes Rose the perfect fit.  He is happy to defer, but still has the skill and swagger to be an effective Robin to anyone’s Batman (or Pippen to anyone’s Jordan, if you will).

Anyways, I digress.  The point of this post was to talk about Rose’s inability to deal with the media.  I’ve addressed it in the past when he has given painful interviews.  But fear not!  Someone seems to be schooling the youngster when it comes to being in front of a camera.  In this interview with J.E. Skeets from Ball Don’t Lie, Rose actually sounds somewhat articulate.  Check it out:

I’m not saying that interview was a perfect 10. But let’s say his interviews in the past were a solid 2. That one was at least a 4, right? I’ll take that progression from him. On the other hand, I have no problem skipping his speech lessons to work on that mid-range jumper.

The title of this is so ridiculous. You’re a douche and D.Rose will probably make more this season than you will in a lifetime. Who cares about his public speaking he’s a 21 year old kid, stop being a prick.

I agree with cameron. Stop talkin about DRose like that because you sound like a hater. His speech and ability to talk in front of cameras does not matter, he has mad skills in the game and he is still very young. I know that he is very shy too and quiet so please shutup!

Clearly you two idiots did not read the entire post (or anything I’ve ever posted on NQTC). If you had you would know that I love him. The fact that he is shy is fine, but to be a superstar, which I definitely think he is, he will need to learn to be more articulate with the media. Like I wrote at the end of the post, I would obviously rather him work on his game than his speech. Do you people read or just troll?

Why are people so sensitive to certain comments about their beloved athletes? I think everybody in Chicago loves Derrick Rose and thinks he’s a nasty basketball player. Nobody would rather have a well-spoken Bull that sucks. But that doesn’t deny the fact that so far Derrick has been extremely mediocre when it comes to public speaking. Almost every interview has come off as a monotone, deer-in-the-headlights performance. When you’re a fan of somebody no matter what, you can say these things because the player will always be one of your favorites. So relax……reeeeeeeeeeelax. Nobody really cares about this, but we can still make fun of him for it until he improves, which the video shows he slowly is.

Hey Norm,

You did come off a little harsh on the poor kid, which would explain why you’re getting some sass from these readers. I suspect those first 3 posts were the same person under 3 different names, though.

It’s probably normal to want to see somebody charismatic with the press like Shaq, but why does that make Rose a painful interviewer? He’s polite, charming, respectful, and starting to blossom with confidence, as we all are witnessing more after the All-Star Game. I’m just thankful he doesn’t stutter or have some other speech impediment.

I agree with you that he did loosen up a lot with the embedded interview you posted. It must have been nice to have a guy interviewing him closer to his age and asking easy questions about video games rather than his real game.

Evan: Why the hell would the first 3 post be the same person? Have you ever met someone with the last name Cumberbatch? I don’t think anybody would just randomly make that name up. I said what I had to say. I am my own person. Just because 3 people have the same viewpoint about a stupid post doesn’t mean anything.
