Cubs Latest Acquistion – “Cubs Hot Dog”

The Ricketts family has taken over and they are already starting to make their presence felt.  We have heard about all the changes they plan on implementing around the park, the experience and the Organization in general.  On-field personnel?  Seems to be an afterthought, oh well.  David Kaplan has explained some more of the changes that fans can expect, including a new “Cubs Hot Dog” similar to the “Dodger Dog” and the “Fenway Frank”.  I am extremely concerned about this – my hot dog at Wrigley is very important, and I don’t want them f@*#ing with this.  Anyone who is a true Cubs fan knows where to get their dogs – the stand that only sells hotdogs with grilled onions.  There are a few in the park – but in NO WAY is it worth bypassing the line to get a hot dog from another concession stand or from a vendor.  I’ve never had a “Dodger Dog”, but the “Fenway Frank” is horrendous and I truly hope that (1) the “Cubs Hot Dog” is a true Chicago-style dog (mustard, no ketchup, charred, grilled onions, relish, tomato, celery salt, pickle, hot peppers); and (2) they come up with a better name than the “Cubs Hot Dog”.  Any suggestions?

Other food ideas the Ricketts need to consider:

  • More grilled hot dog stands (see above)
  • Please include nacho cheese with that awesome “Northside Twist” (aka 4-pound pretzel, once consumed by Stormin Norman), the other sauces are garbage
  • More nachos is always a good thing
  • Is anyone in the world ok with the BS flat wooden spoons that they include with the malt cups?  Didn’t think so.
  • Contract Lettuce Entertain You Consulting Group to do the food and hook them up with all sorts of free tickets for their accountant

I think they would be foolish to try branding anything but a Chicago-style hotdog as a Cubs Hot Dog. I agree about the Fenway Frank – that had to be one of the most disappointing foods I’ve ever eaten since it not only fell short of its reputation, it tasted downright disgusting.

I’d rather it be called something like a Wrigley Dog or something, but as long as it doesn’t employ use of the word “Cubbie,” I’m fine with whatever.

I agree. The Fenway Frank is horrendous. For some reason, they think it’s cute to use a folded piece of white bread instead of a hot dog bun. While this might work for lobster rolls and homemade bread, it does not work for mediocre hot dogs and Wonder bread. You’d think that you’d get some good old school food and some of these old school stadiums, but for some reason the owners don’t realize that just the slightest changes can immensely improve their food offering.

I’ve had a dodger dog, and the only thing that makes it a “Dodger Dog” is that it’s longer than a normal hot dog…and it tastes like crap.

They should call it the “Mark Prior”. A complete weenie that always leaves you with a gut ache.

Steamed hot dogs are also an acceptable style in the Chicago Style Hot dog. I preferred mine steamed. Some hot doggeries will do it steamed. You forgot to mentioned that the bun has to be poppy seeded and steamed as well. S Rosen’s is the preferred brand.
