Not only have I tried the Derrick Rose kool-aid, but I drink it by the gallon. What he’s done the last couple of months has been amazing. But more to the point, I totally agree with anything that lands the Bulls more cap space and keeps Rose and Noah. But rather than someone like Wade and Joe Johnson, I think the top priority should be a dominant post player to play along side Noah. Rose is a shoot first point guard. He’s at his best when he is looking to score and dishing when the defense forces him to. When he is pouring in points it takes the defensive focus away from other players which, in turn, allows Rose to distribute the ball. That’s where most of his assists come from. Pairing him with a scoring 2 guard like Wade who would command the ball on the perimeter on every possession would only reduce Rose’s effectiveness. Not too mention, if they got someone like Wade and failed on a power forward that would leave them with Noah being the only major player in the post. That’s fine for a 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs, but not for a team that wants to contend for titles. The Bulls biggest problem has been a lack of balance between perimeter and inside play. With Wade or Johnson they lack of balance only gets worse. Get the post guy first, then you have a nice tandem with the new guy and Noah and a great point guard. Then if you can get a good 2 guard then great, but anyone that can defend the perimeter and be a spot of 3 point shooter for Rose to dish to would also be a great fit. With whoever they choose to or try to add, the 2 guard doesn’t have to be a superstar, but to contend for titles, the post player does.
