Top Ten Illinois Stories of the Decade Reflect Poorly on Our Great State
Sure some of this top ten list are positive things. Obama is from Illinois, and of course the White Sox winning it all in 2005 was fun (for half of Chicago at least). The rest? Meh, not so much. This list was released by the AP titled “Top Stories of the Decade for Illinois”. Enjoy:
- Obama’s Election
- Blagojevich’s Indictment
- Ryan Goes To Prison
- Ryan Halts Executions
- NIU Shootings
- Recession
- White Sox Win 2005 World Series
- E2 Night Club Stampede
- 2009 Budget Meltdown
- April 2004 Utica Tornado
Makes you proud, doesn’t it?

I’m disappointed the massive dump I took at the I-88 Oasis in the summer of ‘06 didn’t make the list.

Recession? I mean, wasn’t the whole country affected by that? Not very unique to Illinois. If we were talking Detroit or Wall Street, maybe a different story and more interesting. I feel like they could have come up with something more Chicago/Illinois specific.
That’s my non-sports comment of the day.
