Qualified Picks – Week of 12/15
Is your online sportsbook account getting low? Yeah so is mine. But help is here – no longer will you have to settle for only Stormin Normin’s Qualified Picks, but the entire NQTC writing team will be offering up there sure-fire bets each week for you to feed your online sports betting addiction! So we’ll keep records starting this week, but I fully expect to dominate the rest of the staff.
Saturday, 12/19 at 1:00 pm CST: #10 UNC @ #2 Texas (Men’s Basketball)
- JavierSandooski: I’m taking UNC with the upset here. No, I don’t work for ESPN and NO I am not east-coast-biased. Texas is obviously a solid team, but how have they proven themselves yet? They haven’t. Obviously they’ll play Kansas down the road which will be a great test, but so far they haven’t beaten a big team yet. Well, neither has UNC but their losses came from Syracuse (who is currently 10-0) and Kentucky by 2 (who has the future #1 pick John Wall).
- Stormin’ Norman: Texas- They are 9 men deep and boast Damian James, one of the strongest wingmen in the country. While UNC is definitely not full of scrubs, I think the Longhorns pull this one out at home.
- StevieY19: UNC over Texas- I haven’t seen Texas play, so I’m going with the known commodity here. UNC has great young talent and Texas always seems to lose a game like this around Christmas time. How’s that for a breakdown?
- South Side Sheik: UNC over Texas – The Longhorns have started off the season very strong, winning eight straight by 16 points or more. (Disclaimer: I wrote this before their tilt with 1-8 Texas-Pan American, where anything could happen.) Unfortunately, they haven’t faced much competition. This game will be their first real test of the year. My (fake) money is on the Tar Heels who have developed a W-L-W-L pattern against Top 25 teams. They’re due for a W.
Sunday, 12/20 at 6:00 pm CST: Redwings @ Blackhawks (NHL)
- JavierSandooski: I can’t wait for this one. Obviously I’m taking the Blackhawks. There are a number of reasons for this: (1) Detroit Sucks; (2) Kane probably looks about 5,283 times tougher with a black eye; (3) Detroit Sucks; (4) the off-chance that Niemi is in goal to record his 4th shutout in his 9th game; and (5) HOSSA.
- Stormin’ Norman: Blackhawks- I don’t know anything about hockey but I do know that while the Wings are playing decently, their star has faded a bit and the Hawks are one of the best teams in the league.
- StevieY19: Hawks over Wings- Tuck your boners, I’m just saying that the Hawks will essentially be playing the Wings’ farm team in this one. The Red Wings are playing well despite significant injuries to at least five players. Seems like a perfect time for the Hawks to start breaking whatever curse the Wings hold over them.
- South Side Sheik: Hawks over the Red Wings – The Blackhawks will be coming off a home game on Friday against the Bruins, while the banged up Red Wings will have to fly from Dallas on Saturday evening to play the Hawks at the United Center Sunday night. I think this gives the Hawks an additional boost, whether they need it or not.
