Former Bulls Center Luc Longley Wins Right to Name New Shrimp Species

shrimpI know this sounds extremely odd, but any sort of win that is even loosely connected with the Bulls feels like a godsend these days.  While the current incarnation of the Chicago Bulls probably couldn’t win a game of rock-paper-scissors right now, past championship Bulls continue to have success.  Recently Michael Jordan was elected into the Hall of Fame, and now on a similar level of accomplishment (sarcasm), Luc Longley has won an Ebay auction to name a new species of shrimp discovered in Australia:

After a graduate student discovered a previously unknown shrimp while working as an assistant on a research boat, she decided to auction the right to name the shrimp on eBay and donate the proceeds to the Australian Marine Conservation Society. Longley won with a bid of $2,900.

Longley decided to name the shrimp Lebbeus clarehanna after his daughter, Clare Hanna Longley.  Apparently Longley, who was born in Australia, has taken an interest in marine conservation in the past.  The irony of a 7-footer naming a species of shrimp is obvious, but maybe, just maybe, this will give the Bulls the karma they need to start winning.  Although a new coach would probably be a better route.
