Joakim Noah Thinks He Belongs To The Circus [Bulls Circus Trip Roundup]

NoahAh the Circus Trip.  The yearly tradition where the Chicago Bulls get totally baked and go join a circus for a couple of weeks.  Wait, what?  That’s not what it is?  Well I’m pretty confused then, and so is Joakim Noah:

“Why do they always call it the circus trip?” Noah asked with a straight face after practice at the Berto Center. “What’s so circus about it anyway?”

Told that the annual extended trip is called that because, well, the circus takes over the United Center, Noah proffered a sheepish grin and shook his head.

“Oh,” he said.

Well I’m guessing this realization doesn’t mean he won’t get baked, it just means he’ll remember its a basketball game and not a circus.  Anyways in all seriousness, this circus trip has been a disaster the last decade or so.  Besides spawning one of my greatest posts (sarcasm), it has been nothing but trouble.  The Bulls are 9-56 combined on Circus Trips since the 1998-1999 season.  After going 0-32 the first few years, they have a record of 9-24 the last 5 seasons.  Ouch.

The difference this season is they enter this trip with their best record going into it since the Jordan Era.  They are 5-4 against one of the toughest schedules in the NBA so far (Lakers have had the toughest).  Although their offense has been, ummm, pretty much the worst thing I have ever had to watch, the defense has been stellar.  Dare I say its been Skiles-esque?  I dare say I shall.  Will that translate into a winning trip? Unlikely.  If they can come home after this 6-game trip at 7-8, that would be very good.  Here’s what the schedule looks like:

11/17 @SAC
11/19 @LAL
11/21 @DEN
11/23 @POR
11/26 @UTA
11/30 @MIL

I would say Sacramento, Utah and Milwaukee are winnable games.  Tune in tonight to see Joakim Noah make a lion jump through a flaming hoop.
