Breast Cancer Awareness Month [Giving Something Back Edition]
No, all that pink you see on the site does not mean we have become a gay sports blog. As a sports blog, we don’t always have an opportunity to do good in the community. This month there is an opportunity, however. Thanks to our friends over at Midwest Sports Fans, an effort is being made to have as many sports blogs as we can do something for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That is what all the pink is about, and it will be up all month in hope of promoting breast cancer awareness to our entire NQTC community and beyond.
If you feel the urge to donate, please click here. Also, all month long we will have a large pink ribbon located near the top on the right side of the site that you can click on to donate. The donations will be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a great foundation that promotes awareness and research.
Here are some background facts about the disease from the official website of Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, aside from skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States this year. An estimated 40,170 women are expected to die from the disease in 2009 alone. Today, there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.
Thanks to everyone who donates or even spreads the word about breast cancer. I know many people have been effected by it personally or through family and friends, and anything you can do will help.
