Blogpoll Ballot: Preseason Draft
In a new feature on NQTC, we’ll be a part of the CBS Sportsline Blogpoll this season. This is a collection of bloggers who have banded together to take over the world of college football rankings from our parents’ basements. The whole project started over at MGoBlog and was picked up by CBS last year. Here’s a handy pamphlet on how it works.
Here’s how it will work for us:
- I’ll put together a draft of a ballot every Monday and post it here. It will look just like the version below, which is the draft of my preseason top-25.
- In the comments you’ll rip apart my rankings, insult me and everything I stand for, and hopefully provide some of your usual compelling and interesting viewpoints on the rankings.
- By Wednesday I need to have the final draft of the ballot in, so I’ll take the comments into account and revise for the final ballot.
- The ballots are collected, analyzed, and judged by Brian Cook at MGoBlog and presented in a detailed breakdown with math and stuff.
Without further rambling, here goes nothin’:
- Florida- It’d be a surprise if they didn’t win it all with almost the entire defense coming back, along with his Tebowness.
- Texas- Colt McCoy is back and the Longhorns should carry over their angst from last year’s snubbing.
- USC- An early season date in Columbus will tell us a lot, but USC reloads so well and their offensive line should provide a smooth learning experience for whichever super-recruit QB wins the job.
- Oklahoma- Losing four all-Big 12 linemen isn’t good, but bringing back the Heisman Trophy winner is great. Jermaine Gresham provides a great target as the best TE in the country.
- Virginia Tech- The Hokies might be a little overrated here, but they have tons of experience on the offensive line and a great defense. We’ll learn more when they play Alabama and Nebraska in non-conference play (love that scheduling!).
- Alabama- Julio Jones: he’s nasty.
- Oklahoma State- This high ranking will be tested early against Georgia, but Dez Bryant leaps tall buildings in a single bound.
- LSU- The Tigers have some questions, but could be primed for a comeback this year behind all-american candidate Charles Scott at running back.
- Ohio State- I read a preview that said OSU’s defense was “primed to lead the way to a Big Ten Championship” but there are a lot of unproven Buckeyes this year. Pryor will have some growing pains.
- Cal- I love Jahvid Best, no homo.
- Boise State- The Broncos were 12-0 last year and bring a ton of players back including sophomore QB Kellen Moore.
- Penn State- I’m not sold on the Nittany Lions this year, but non-existent peer pressure has persuaded me to put them here. Good luck Clark and Royster.
- Georgia Tech- Here’s a team I like because they run the option. Go Yellow Jackets!
- Ole Miss- The hype train is leaving the station.
- Georgia- Stafford and Moreno are gone, but there are plenty of guys in the trenches with experience.
- Iowa- The Hawkeyes finished very strong last year. They lose their star RB, but return enough to be dangerous.
- Kansas- Todd Reesing is back at QB and still has his prime target Dezmon Briscoe to chuck it at.
- Illinois- Sticking with the midwest portion of the show, the Illini fall in here with tons of offensive talent.
- TCU- The Horned Frogs just know how to get it done. Solid returners on offense and their defense is always good.
- Cincinnati- Brian Kelly has made Cincy one of the best teams in the Big East. Woo-hoo.
- BYU- The ladies are lining up to marry QB Max Hall!
- Nebraska- Bo Pelini’s second year will show signs of a turnaround for the Huskers.
- North Carolina- Butch Davis is on the verge of something very nice at UNC.
- Oregon- The Ducks and their ridiculous uniforms recruit well and should contend for second in the Pac-10.
- Notre Dame- Just want to put them here to say they’re talented, but a win over a terrible Hawaii team in a bowl doesn’t mean they’ve returned to glory.
Okay, let me know what you think. I’m sure there will be revisions before the first ballot is due on Monday.

Illinois is very high already. I would put Oregon St somewhere in the back of the pack. You have Cinncy pretty high considering what they are bringing back on defense, but it is the Big East so I guess you had to pick someone around there. I’m glad you’re not on the Ole Miss bandwagon. Solid team, but not top 10. I really like TCU, they had a great defense last year. And I could argue either way for Notre Dame, so 25th seems appropriate.
