Just Let Cutler Be Cutler (Reminiscing About The Sex Cannon)

Stan: "I mean you kinda suck, but my dad says you might be good someday."

Some idiot at ESPN decided to stir the pot for Chicagoans the other day by implying that we are too easy on Cutler before he has even thrown a single pass.  Not only that, but apparently Cutler will definitely remind us of Rex Grossman before too long.  Cue K.C. Joyner of ESPN:

I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again – Cutler will make Bears fans remember Rex Grossman. He’ll make just as many crazy passes but won’t suffer the Grossman fate because Chicago’s fan base is so in love with him that they will forgive the nutty throws he makes in ways that they never forgave Grossman.

I guess my first question would be: Who is K.C. Joyner?  I would follow that up with: Does his opinion have any validity?  There is no reason to vent my outrage here, since Brad Biggs over at the Sun-Times was pissed off enough for all of us:

The bottom line is the Bears are better with Cutler, and Joyner and others believe the quarterback still needs to improve. Imagine what it would be like if they still had a quarterback being ignored by the masses. No one was rushing to break down the three-headed monster that was Jonathan Quinn-Craig Krenzel-Chad Hutchinson. Who paid attention when the Quarterback Clown Car had a parking spot front and center at Halas Hall?

As our friends over at Blog Down, Chicago Bears point out, its all speculation at this point anyways.  One thing is for sure though, I’m glad this K.C. Joyner guy isn’t GM of the Bears.  No matter what you think about Jay Cutler’s abilities as a QB, if you think Grossman=Cutler, you have some serious talent-evaluating issues.

KC Joyner is basically a sabermetrics nerd for football, and to me such studies can be a waste of time on a game we can clearly see who is good and who is not with our own eyes. He hasn’t shut up about Cutler all offseason. I can’t wait until Jay makes Joyner look like the ubernerd he absolutely is. Keep studying your worthless stats KC, and say hi for Frodo for me while you’re in Mordor.
