Rex Grossman Sucks, And America Won’t Let Him Forget It
Steve McNair was on a recent episode of Pros vs. Joes. For anyone that hasn’t seen the show, basically regular guys attempt to beat pro athletes at random sports activities. In a recent episode, Steve McNair was not doing to well, and here is what one Joe had to say to him:
There were some good lines in the show but the best was when Mc Nair missed badly on 3 passes in a row. The pass rusher said, “What do you got Steve? You look more like Rex Grossman right now.”
I mean Grossman is essentially out of the league right now, and rumors have it he’s trying out for the USFL. That being said, he did quarterback a team that went to the Super Bowl and his numbers weren’t that bad overall. Especially not compared to some quarterbacks taht have been in this league. What sets Grossman apart was the “Good Rex/Bad Rex” conundrum, whereby he could lead a team to victory on his own back, and in the next breath literally shit the bed. I wonder if he will become the legendary icon of being a bad quarterback. Only time will tell, but he’s on his way.

How bad was Rex Grossman? We have many QB’s in the NFL that suck a lot worse than Grossman -that don’t get half of the criticism. How many have never been in a playoff game let alone won a couple (look at both games-the defense didn’t win them on their own). Not saying he’s great- but he’s not as bad as the media makes him out to be. Are Leftwich’s, Chris Simms, Quinn’s or Orton’s achievements more impressive the Grossmans?

For what its worth, I still loved watching Sexy play. He was a high risk / high reward player, and when his danger bombs were coming through, the team was unstoppable. I like some excitement in my football. He’s no all time great – but the Bears had been so bad for so long that I wish people had encouraged his crazy passes instead of trying to turn him into a player that he never could be.
