Jerry Angelo Bucks Trend, Thinks Having a Few Beers With Friends Is Okay
Whenever pictures or stories circulate about athletes going out drinking with friends or hooking up with beautiful young women, those stories always come with what seems like the mandatory tongue-lashing from the athlete’s coach, GM or owner. It was only a matter of time until Jerry Angelo reacted to the Cutler photos and stories that were out there about him going on a 3-night bender in downtown Chicago. I was expecting words like “disappointed” to be used in his discussion of the topic. While he’s done some good things and some bad things in his time with the Bears, Angelo surprised us all with his comments about Jay Cutler:
“When we did our research, we know he goes out, we know he does those things,” Angelo said. “We talked to our medical people, we talked to the Denver medical people. It comes with the territory. We’re comfortable with it. I really can’t answer it beyond that.
“I’m not going to micro-manage a person. If we have to do that, that’s not a good sign. Some lessons, they have to see and learn for themselves. I don’t think that’s a big thing at this point. It’s what he does on Sunday is how we’re going to evaluate him. That’s the bottom line. He’s got a good foundation coming in here. He’s a young quarterback, he’s played in this league, he’s shown what he can do. He gets it. That’s the biggest concern. He gets it.”
Whoa Jerry. So you’re saying that it’s ok for a young man to go out drinking with friends? How unusual. Jerry gets a gold star for being reasonable where the rest of the world seems to have gone insane.
