4 Chicago Sports Teams Win On The Same Day? It’s Been Done Before

citychicagoAfter Saturday’s crazy marathon, described here, I was wondering if this kind of thing had ever happened in Chicago prior to Saturday.  Thanks to a little sleuthing by NQTC reader Gavin, we now know it has happened before.  Just last week in fact:

All four teams winning on the same day in the regular season happens quite often in the month of April. In some years it could happen in late March when baseball has started early.

In fact, it happened last week — April 11 — when the Bulls defeated Charlotte 113-106, the Hawks took care of the hated Detroit “Dead Wings”?4-2, the White Sox cruised past Minnesota 8-0 and the Cubs edged Milwaukee 6-5.

But how about in the playoffs. When was the last time both the Blackhawks and Bulls won playoff games on the same day?  How about 17 years ago on Sunday, April 26, 1992.

And the really rare thing about that day was that both residents of the Chicago Stadium (for you younger bloggers, that was the home to the Bulls and Hawks before the United Center opened) were home.  How??Well, the Bulls defeated the Miami Heat 120-90 in the afternoon (Michael Jordan had 33 points and 13 rebounds while Scottie Pippen added 30 points), then they “lifted”?the basketball floor in time for the Blackhawks to defeat the St. Louis Blues 6-4.  It had never happened since … until Saturday, April 18, 2009.

Oh, and by the way, the Cubs and White Sox also won that day 17 years ago. The Cubs defeated Pittsburgh 5-4 in the 10 inning when Mark Grace scored on a base hit. The White Sox edged Detroit 7-6 after almost blowing a 7-0 lead.

There you have it.  Now I’m wondering if the Bears, Hawks, Bulls and Cubs/Sox ever played on the same day in late October.  I’m guessing not for the Cubs since they haven’t played in late October since the end of World War II.
