Tribute Patch (Honoring Norm Van Lier and Johnny Kerr)

I meant to post this last week when the Bulls started wearing it, but it got shuffled to the bottom of all the Red and Norm tributes.  The Bulls will be wearing these patches on their jerseys for the rest of the season to honor the two Bulls greats.  Here is what they look like:

It’s simple yet elegant and does a good job of honoring Red and Norm.  I hope the Bulls can play the kind of inspired basketball that Red and Norm were known for all those years ago.

I was actually wondering about that when I saw them playing Miami. I probably should have figured it out, but I couldn’t read the letters (wasn’t watching on my HD TV).

I’m not a huge basketball fan. But I met Norm Van Lier at a bar in Chicago one day a few years ago. He was as charismatic as they come – everyone at the place knew him. He seemed to be everyone’s friend.

It was just one of those chance meetings that happen every now and then. I was saddened to hear that he had died. The tribute was well earned.
