March Madness!! AHHHH!!! (Day II)
Yesterday was another great day in college basketball. Two overtime games and a ton of upsets. Once again here are my brief observations of every game:
Louisville 74 Morehead State 54: I never thought this game was in doubt, although Morehead State kept it interesting well into the second half. The full-court press by the Cardinals is stifling, and fun to watch.
Pitt 72 ETSU 62: Another 16 seed that gave a 1 seed trouble. This one really came down to the wire, but Pitt pulled it out. Blair had 27 and 16, he’s an animal.
MSU 77 RMC 62: Didn’t really watch, good for the Big 10 though. It wouldn’t have looked good to have our best team lose to Robert Morris College.
Mizz 78 Cornell 59: Meh.
Cleveland State 84 Wake Forest 69: Horizon League!! Wake Forest never even made this close. They were overrated all season and a 4 seed was clearly way too high.
Syracuse 59 Stephen F Austin 44: Some guy on SFA was listed at 5’3″ and was probably 5’1.5″ tops. As cool as that was, he had 0 points in 20 minutes. Ouch.
Wisconsin 61 FSU 59 OT: How does the most boring team EVER push FSU to overtime and actually play what might have been the most exciting game of the first round? Only in March.
ASU 66 Temple 57: Someone for Temple named Christmas filled it up to the tune of 29 points, but it wasn’t enough. ASU never led by much, but clearly controlled the game from the beginning.
Xavier 77 Port St. 59: Blow Out.
Marquette 58 Utah St. 57: Great game, but where was Jerel MacNeal? Hayward played great, but they will need MacNeal to step up if they want to beat Mizzou on Sunday.
OK St. 77 Tenn 75: Bruce Pearl gets what he deserves; a heartbreaking loss in the final seconds in a game his team should/could have won. Ha!
Dayton 68 W. Virginia 60: Remember that time W. Virginia did well in the tourney with a low seed? Remember how every time afterwards they have choked? This year was no different, but those Flyers looked pretty good.
Arizona 84 Utah 71: What was with Utah’s jerseys. It said “Runnin Utes” on the front and “Utah” on the back? Kinda cool, but not cool enough to help them overcome Arizona. Where was this Zona team all season?
USC 72 BC 55: USC are all quick athletic players with no jump shots. Like a poor man’s Memphis.
Sienna 74 OSU 72 2OT: You know those three-point prayer shots that only go in during March Madness? Between this and the Wisco game, those shots finally started going down. And it was great.
