Hawks Aren’t Assured a Playoff Spot Yet
After losing five straight games and seven of the last eight, the Blackhawks got a win on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Kings. The highlight of the 4-1 win was the return of Patrick Sharp, who scored two goals and should give the Blackhawks a much needed lift offensively.
However, the Hawks have been jockeying as of late with Vancouver for the fourth seed. Also, while the biggest concern a couple weeks ago was grabbing home ice in the first round, the Hawks could be looking over their shoulders at a logjam of teams behind them hoping to get in the playoffs. How can they be vying for home ice and worrying about missing the playoffs entirely at the same time with only about three weeks remaining in the regular season? The Blackhawks have actually moved back into fourth place after Sunday’s win, but they’re only 11 points ahead of the ninth place team.
With their final two games coming against the Red Wings, the Hawks don’t want any suspense when it comes down to the wire, but if they don’t step up their game soon, things could get very interesting and very tense in the next couple of weeks. You have to hope that Khabibulin is getting his legs back-he has played two straight games and four of five-and with Sharp back, one would think the offense is ready for a resurgence.
Another major factor has to be Joel Quenneville. Q got major credit when he stepped in early on and led the Hawks to their blazing start, but now he needs to show his experience when the young Blackhawks need it the most. It’s time to buckle down, lock up a playoff spot and fine tune your team for the playoffs. The Hawks play San Jose Wednesday and New Jersey Friday, both at the United Center.

Thanks for an additional improbable blog. Where else could anybody get that type of information written in such an ideal means? I’ve a presentation that I’m just now working on, and I’ve been on the look out for such information.
