Please Don’t Go

It’s storming here in Chicago right now, and that seems fitting.  I found my way to the sports section of the Tribune’s site today only to find a countdown clock to the moment Rex Grossman would be released.

Really?  A countdown?  Isn’t this saved for moments like opening day or Ditka’s next meal?  The guy didn’t even start last year.  He played in about two games and led a comeback win in one, avoiding what could have been a very embarrassing loss to the Lions, and barely lost to the undefeated Titans in the other.

The Sex Cannon was fun, but I suppose I think so because it was easier for me to laugh when he would drop the ball for no reason, or say that he wasn’t focused because it was New Year’s Eve.  I definitely missed the excitement this year.  It was no fun watching the Bears miss the playoffs just like every other team.  If you’re going to lose, it might as well be exciting, right Detroit?

This might be one of those times though that the rain clouds are just following me around because I think I’m the only one mourning his departure.  So while all of you raise a glass to toast the departure of Rex Grossman tonight and watch your countdown clocks, I’ll be hoping my Lions scoop him up so I can follow the Cannon just like the old days.  Plus, that’s the only place he has a chance to get on the field.  Farewell Rex.
