Hawks hit the Road Again, Beat Lightning
Playing on the road for what seems like the 20th time in the last few weeks, the Blackhawks overcame a lot to get a victory last night.
Tampa Bay rookie Steve Stamkos netted his first hat trick as a professional, but it was the youth of Chicago that stole the show. It was like the NHL version of the Rookie-Sophomore game with rookie Stamkos, Kane, and Toews. Kane and Toews got the win for the “Sophomores” though as Toews tallied two goals and an assist, while Kane had a goal with two helpers.
Chicago also had to overcome a 3-1 deficit. After Martin Havlat found Duncan Keith on a great 4 on 4 goal, the Lightning rattled off three straight. A power play goal from Toews in the last minute of the second pulled the Hawks to within one, then another goal on the man advantage came from Kane, just 1:46 into the third. Dave Bolland scored the game winner with just under 8:00 left and Toews got his second goal later to seal the win.
Havlat, Keith, Kane, and Toews really picked up the slack as the Hawks were missing their leading scorer, Patrick Sharp. Looks like Sharp could be out for at least a couple of weeks, so it would be nice if the other stars could keep it up. Outshooting teams 49-23 like the Hawks did to the Lightning, wouldn’t hurt either.
It’s at Florida tomorrow night for the Hawks and then on to Dallas Saturday, before returning to the United Center on Sunday.
